5 Revenue Leaks on Local Business Websites (and How to Fix Them)

February 10, 20266 min read

Most local business websites aren't broken in obvious ways. They load, they look decent, they have your phone number somewhere. But they're quietly losing you money every single day.

After auditing dozens of local business websites, we keep finding the same five problems. Here's what they are and how to fix each one.

1. No clear call-to-action above the fold

If a visitor has to scroll to figure out how to contact you, you've already lost a chunk of them. Your phone number and primary CTA (like 'Book a Free Estimate') need to be visible the moment someone lands on your site — on both desktop and mobile.

2. Contact forms that ask too much

Every extra field on your contact form reduces submissions. You don't need their company size, budget range, or detailed project description upfront. Name, email, phone, and a short message is plenty. Get the rest on the call.

3. No mobile optimization

Over 60% of local searches happen on phones. If your site isn't fast and easy to use on mobile, you're turning away the majority of your potential customers. Tap targets need to be large enough, text needs to be readable without zooming, and your phone number needs to be click-to-call.

4. Slow page load speed

A one-second delay in page load time can reduce conversions by 7%. Oversized images, unused JavaScript, and cheap hosting are the usual culprits. Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights — if you're scoring below 70 on mobile, you're leaving money on the table.

5. No tracking or analytics

If you don't know how many people visit your site, where they come from, or what they do when they get there, you can't improve anything. At minimum, you need Google Analytics with event tracking on form submissions and phone clicks.
